The aim of the Pier Group is to repair Largo Pier and restore it to its former importance as a focal point of the village, much loved by residents past and present, regular visitors and tourists.
WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED
Since our formation as a sub group of LCT three years ago much has been achieved, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Crusoe Hotel agreeing in principle that the Pier could be taken into community ownership when funds are available to restore the pier, a civil engineering design study has been produced, with fully costed proposals and this has been the subject of a consultation in the villages. We have undertaken temporary repairs to ensure the Pier does not suffer from winter storms.
We have completed a major fundraising appeal and the Group would like to express our grateful thanks to all those who contributed so generously. We were awarded funding of £5000 from Fife Coast and Countryside Trust who see the Pier as an important amenity on the Coastal Path and an obvious tourism asset for the local community. We have also received a grant from the Crown Estates fund.
Thanks to the generous donations, we undertook the digging of trial pits to ascertain details of the rock strata lying beneath the Pier. We are now proceeding with the preparation of a stage 3 RIBA Document which is a requirement in any application to major funders. We also have a healthy contingency fund to cover the costs of any temporary repairs resulting from winter storms.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we can now take care of the pier to limit any further damage; we can build the case for major funding for restoration, and we can then move forward to community ownership and restoration of the pier. It’s a big project, and not easy, but we think we can do it and we will do our best to make it successful.
We will keep you informed at every stage and we’ll consult the community as we progress.

We carried out a community consultation of our plans for Largo Pier in May 2020. The details can be viewed here.
